First Team Squad and Player Sponsors

Spike Bell - Sponsored by Rutter UK

Defender - Re-joined the Bloods in 2013 after spending a spell with Sawbridgeworth Town. Excellent all round player who can play in many different positions, but currently occupies the right back spot. Spike also chips in with the odd goal after marauding runs from the full back position.

Craig Calver  - Sponsored by Sewell Cars

Forward - Very experienced forward who has played for Yeovil Town and numerous other professional clubs. Joined the Bloods in the 2014/15 season and has a great goal scoring record. Very tricky feet, and turns opponents inside out. Craig is the team captain and assistant manager.

Richard Chadwick

Profile to follow.

James Crane -  Sponsored by Mark Young

Midfield - James came back to Walden after a short break. He spent most of last year playing for West Wratting. Very quick and has a strong shot with either foot and can play on the left or right side.

Charlie Dicker- Sponsored by Peter and Carol Coath

Another youth team product and was promoted from the U18s. A talented right back and is particularly good at getting forward into dangerous positions.  Dicker can play either up front or in defence. A great prospect for the future.

Max Drane - Sponsored by Barbershop Co

Midfield.  Drane is a local lad who has played for the SWTFC Youth Teams, Under 18’s, Reserves and now the first team. Drane scored a brace in the last match of the 2015/16 season and was named MOTM.

Ryan Fleming - Sponsored by Rich Jackson and Aaron Claydon

Defender – This is Ryan’s second season as a Blood. He is strong, calm and great on the ball. He communicates well with the midfield and likes to bring the ball forward when winning a challenge. He also has a powerful shot and has produced some great goals from set pieces

Dan Grindrod - Sponsored by Yvonne Reynoldson

Defender – Dan is a strong player who is hard to knock off the ball. Dan scored some very important goals last year including the goal of the season against in the FA Vase.

Louis Harper

Midfielder - Joined the Bloods from Haverhill Rovers and can play anywhere across the midfield. Very skilful and can deliver a wicked delivery from set pieces. Louis is a versatile midfielder and has scored some spectacular goals from distance.

Joe Murphy  - Sponsored by  Jackie & Malcolm Nash

Midfielder. Another ex-Blood who returned to Catons Lane after a spell away. Plays predominantly as an attacking midfielder. Made the most first team appearances of any player in the 2015-16 season.

Jake Noble - Sponsored by Michael Young

Midfielder - Came into the first team after playing well in the reserves two years ago. ‘Nobby’ is good in the air and a strong tackler. Also has the ability to take possession from the defence and produce incisive passes.

Lee Pacey - sponsored by Martin and Jeanette Pacey

Goalkeeper – Joined the Bloods last year. Pacey came from Norwich United and has years of experience under his belt. Pacey recently was awarded Star man in the FA Cup against Chesham, after a series of excellent saves.

Matt Snelling - Sponsored by Saffron Walden Boys Curry Club

Midfielder. The midfield dynamo. ‘Mashy’ was named Supporters and Managers Player of the Year in 2013-14. Tenacious tackler, good in the air and never stops running. Has a great shot on him and is always capable of getting a crucial goal.

James Solkhon - Sponsored by Clearfield Recruitment (Jason Maher)

Defender. Solkhon recently re-joined the Bloods after he decided to hang up his boots during last season. Solkhon is a great all round player and an excellent header of the ball.

Graeme Turner  - Sponsored by Mark Waterman

Forward. Graeme’s height and pace up front causes opposition defences all sorts of problems. Turner is playing great football and has the potential to be leading goal scorer this season.

Stuart Wardley  - Sponsored by Graham Legg

Manager - Arguably the finest player ever to have pulled on a Saffron Walden Town FC shirt, Stuart starred for QPR from 1999-2002, making 87 appearances and scoring 14 goals, and played professionally for a number of other clubs.
