Saffron Walden Town FC put in a dominating performance to climb to 4th in the league. The top 5 teams are separated by just 4 points so the race for the title is closer then ever.
Walden started the match well and took the lead after a great run into the box by Dan Trendall. Trendall crossed the ball into the box for Tom Lakin to slot the ball passed the keeper from 5 yards out.
The second goal was scored from the penalty spot by player of November; Lewis Francis after Tom Lakin was tripped in the 18 yard box.
With minutes to go in the first half the third goal was scored by new Blood Marcus Crowther. Crowther nodded the ball over the keeper from close range and into the back of the net. Marcus has now scored 3 goals in 5 appearances after signing from Bishops Stortford.
In the second half, Dan Trendall scored the fourth goal after the wind took the ball over the top of the keeper. Trendall ran onto the lose ball and tapped it into the net.
Ilford had not given up and scored after a miss placed back pass, fell nicely for the Ilford forward. Keeper O’Sullivan did his best to widen the angle but the strikers shot hit the crossbar and into the goal.
The final goal was an incredible volley by Dan Trendall. Keeper O’Sullivan launched the ball long for Trendall to run onto. Trendall took one touch and volleyed the ball into the top corner from 18 yards out.
MOTM went to Marcus Crowther
The Bloods welcome rivals Stansted to Catons Lane on Saturday 15th December. Kick off 3pm. Stansted sit top of the table with just two points more then Walden. This could be the match of the season as the exciting race for the title and promotion continues.
